Why do we go through life with such a selfish perspective? Maybe because all the pain around us is so great that we convince ourselves it’s for our own sanity that we tune out the agony of others. After all, the very first sin involved putting personal preference over concern for anyone else – including God and His desires. So, how do we get beyond the “me” perspective and begin to really see the pain of others? One way is to become aware of the part we had in our Savior’s pain; it was for our sin He died. By conforming to His image, we can let ourselves become like Him….”acquainted with grief” (Isa. 53:3) and be brave enough to enter into another’s pain. Can we be bold enough to ask God for the ability to experience another’s pain? Yet, unless we do so, we cannot genuinely cry out in prayer on the behalf of others. Seeing from our own perspective is only natural. But Christianity is about living supernaturally. The more we allow ourselves to identify with people in pain, the more we will share in the blessings of their lives. Our vision will improve so that we can see what God sees and experience joy as we watch Him answer prayer.
